This is one of Florida’s many beautiful State Parks. There’s a QR code to pay for parking when you get there but it’s less than $10 per vehicle and I think worth it as these parks are kept clean and maintained as far as I’ve seen.

Roots are the biggest risk out here. Bring your water, bug spray, and sunscreen. If you walk out to the observation deck, you’ll be in full sun. The wooded part is very tranquil with gorgeous old trees. Once you’re far enough from the road, the sounds of nature are symphonic and peaceful.

This trail is just outside of Gainesville and is not in an area super easy to walk to so it’s unlikely you’ll find suspicious characters out there.  Everyone I’ve met on this trail has been friendly and respectful. Be advised; you have high chances of encountering wildlife. Keep your distance and be respectful and you shouldn’t have any problems.

There is no bathrooms or porta-potty. If you have to go your options are finding a tree or a bush; but there are some big bugs in Florida, and the trail is busy enough that even I would not risk the indecent exposure.

This trail is beautiful all year. Whether the prairie is under water or in its current overgrown grassy era, the views are great. You might even see the wild horses or bison that live out here. Also, as always, beware of snakes and alligators.
